He's a friendly sort, so cuddles are welcome. As for his body type, yeah, there's far too many super thin merfolk out there. It's fine every now and then because there are people out there like that, but it does feed into the "ideal" body type for ~beauty~ that mass media shoves down everyone's throats, Disney or not. I've got a couple really skinny merfolk, like my anorexic looking gulper eel, but I've tried not to go that way all the time.
