ink_in_handIf they have, I'd be surprised. Nudibranchs are not an animal very well known to the general populace. Optimus and Megatron have the shapes of real nudibranchs. At first I was going to try to find nudis that would match their color schemes, but that would have taken too long for the time being. So they just have their colors with nudibranch shapes I felt matched them to some degree. If you have the time, I recommend looking up the Chromodoris and the Dendrodoris, they're both very pretty animals. The picture is something I'm going to come back to after January is over though, there's a panoramic in my head that I'd like to finish.

on 2009-01-26 05:15 am (UTC)Those are actually gills. The name nudibranch means naked gill, because of that feature. And they are adorable, here's a great website (http://www.seaslugforum.net/) if you want to waste a rainy day looking at all sorts of colorful and diverse sea slugs and snails.
