Oh hey, color theory! Tried a couple of things I learned yesterday, and I think I might finally be able to keep How To Do Color in my head now.

The merman is based off of the Sea Pig, a kind of sea cucumber that lives in the very deep of the ocean. And yes, they're very tentacled, I didn't exaggerate the number of them here. And I can see Vortex being one of the ones who finds these sorts of disturbing-to-the-masses creatures simply awesome, if just because sticking them in somebot's faceplates get the most entertaining of reactions. :P

Done because Ultharkitty is sick, get well soon.

Ran out of time badly today, so there's a missing hand and no background. Though it does show how I can piecemeal a picture and not follow the standard linear steps. )

Recently found and unpacked my Oceanic Wilderness photograph book, it's a beast over a foot tall and at six and a half pounds, but it has some of the most stunning undersea images one can find of the smaller marine creatures. The one I used today is the Thuridilla lineolata commonly known as the Lined Sea Slug. I also wanted to use a thicker body type again, getting away from the traditionally used thin and slim merfolk while at the same time not making a caricature that's often made of larger body types. And I think I succeeded even though I think I could have gone further with zir and still kept zir's aesthetics.

For the sake of both my physical and mental health; I'm tired, fighting a bug and my mind is as fried and as scattered as double dipped french fries at a beach full of seagulls. Not too happy taking a day off, but I'm afraid of a much bigger burnout otherwise.

So I'll turn this into another post asking for prompts. My art drive is intact, thank god, I'm just having problems coming up with ideas early enough so that I'm not scrunched for time when the midnight deadline creeps closer. Though no promises of my actually completing them, this is just as much for me as it will be for the prompter. And yes, for the two of you who've already given me ideas this month, you can ask again.

I'll accept any fandom I know, of any media type. Less popular characters preferred (I tend to  get bored with the commonly seen ones), unless it's from a small or non-existent fandom (seriously, I know some pretty rare ones.) in which case anything is fair game. It doesn't even have to be an actual character, it could be an animal or creature too. And I don't mind prompts that have nothing to do with a fandom as well, like the merfolk or mythological creatures and deities I've done.

I'm also good with any genre, and pretty much any rating with one exception. No porn, I don't like to draw it , I don't want to draw it. It doesn't matter the rating; soft or hard, or even if it's only implied. I can draw the goriest gory picture, but no smut. Het or slash, Poly or self service, it doesn't matter. I know this is a rather oddball thing especially in the Transformers fandom, but it's how I prefer it. Thank you.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go see if I can't find anything to focus on. Else I'm going to end up laying down and tracing patterns in the ceiling and forgetting the images as I go along.

After yesterdays' mermaid, and remembering a post I recently read about the animal, and with nothing else giving me inspiration at all... I ended up drawing this. Needed to draw something not nearly as fierce as what I've been doing lately too, it's fun, but one can only draw so many snarlers before they blur together. (And yeah, yeah, yet another lazy background post.)

But a little about the Elysia chlorotica. It's one of the only animals to synthesize it's own food from sunlight, sure it needs to eat a single meal of algae to pick up the required proteins and genes, but it does. It is also a simultaneous hermaphrodite, meaning its' got both male and female sex organs at the same time. For being no more than a couple inches long, it's quite an epic animal.

I need to start thinking about what I'm going to do several days down the line so I don't keep getting stuck, but it's been so long since I've done art with any frequency, I'm quite rusty.

And husband, with yet another lazy gradient background. )

Rather generic species wise, but with a definite Ceratiidae suborder bent. Had loads of fun with her, making her bulky body type work for her instead of against her, and keeping her very clearly an anglerfish even if her lure were to be taken away. The merman was fun too, though if I were to be even more accurate to the fish, I probably should have made him even smaller. Initially it was just going to be the recognizable female, but I figured I had to play around with the extreme sexual dimorphism with the group. And thank Ultharkitty for the prompt again, I had fun with this.

Almost didn't this done today even though I started early. I kept getting distracted by awesome ask-a-tumbler Batman villain tumbler accounts.

In regards to yesterday, I got my car back today. Got a wrecker to open it up and jump start it, then got myself a new battery for fear of this happening again. Considering all that, I'm a bit surprised that I'm only about $150 poorer now, it could have been much worse. But still... >_< ...ouch ouch ouch ouch... Not Happy, I could have used that. But! Car runs so much better now! Even if I was planing on using that cash to get the muffler fixed this month. *whines and flops into a pile of strung out nerves*

ETA: Forgot to add a link to a pair of anglerfish earrings I found while looking for references. Wish I wore earrings, and wish I had that kind of money to spend. Haven't had a blarg!WANT! reaction that strongly in a while.

I'm back. Thank you for the kind words of support you guys gave when I said I'd been hit by this bug.

In which I announce my return through a bizarre comic. )

ART DUMP!!! )

Now I just need to get to working on all that I missed.

Thanks to a recent article on [livejournal.com profile] wtf_nature I was reminded of an old character I have. Soog is a goose barnacle merperson. (Get it? Soog, Goose? I'm so uncreative. :\) And I say merperson, because neither mermaid nor merman would work. Seeing as barnacles are hermaphrodites, that's right, they have both complete sets of parts. And yes, I did put that in my character. But anyway, the whole point of their post was on the unusual kinds of sex found throughout the world. I'm actually kinda of a prude, but this was too good to pass up.

So have some barnacle pick-up lines. I take no responsibility for any brain breakage that may occur by you clicking this cut. )

And for some real life stuff )

I've started drawing my merfolk again. One of them, Silceo, has changed quite a bit during the five years I've been drawing them. I figure that you guys would like seeing the evolution of my art.

Doing it backwards... )

Alright you peeps. Here's what you can do.

Give me a character or critter, be it from a canon or fanon (this is me subtly asking you to poke some of my characters if you please, but feel free to ask for others) source, along with a small prompt and I'll sketch it. I'm also willing to listen to bits from peoples fanfiction or even a bunny farm hopper you wish to see, but I don't know how well that would work for a sketch challenge thingy. The whole thing is to help me not become hung up on my perfectionist tendencies as much, and to get over an annoying art block. You guys just get some (hopefully) nifty art as well. This is not limited to just transformers but if I don't know the fandom, sorry no luck.

Annnnd.... go!

EDIT: ATTENTION!! I'm putting this on a temporary hiatus for what will probably be a couple of days. Due to the fact that I've developed a fever and a nasty cough. (yay, sick again) Requests that are still up will be finished so no worries. And when I start this up again I'll probably just go with a new post seeing as this one has gotten quite full. :D

Cross posted from my dA account I finally gotten around to posting stuff in. I then got tagged for the first time to do an art meme. So using up two nights of insomnia I got this completed, which is more or less the only art I've been able to finish in what feels like forever. Following some hemming and hawing I'm posting it here, haven't really posted a lot of my different mers and for some reason my mind got stuck thinking all I did was post TF art here.

Usually I'm great at remembering things but I'm still getting over a week of hell I had. Even now after a few days, I'm still tired and want the world to stop so I can get off.

Big OC art meme picture hidden here. )

Recently I've been debating on the idea of doing sketch requests. Much like writers will, for a short time, have people give them a character and a prompt and then they'll write a short ficlet that follows those paramaters. Currently I have the you-can-start-it-but-you-can't-finish-it art block and I really want to get rid of it. Considering that my new years resolution actually did a little of what it was supposed to do, and since I no longer am as finicky as I was before, I figure this may help as well.

So... too long, didn't read, my following post will allow you guys to give me a character prompt and I'll do a quick sketch of it.

Was asked how the mouth works on a Gulper mer. Well, a Gulper isn't a Gulper unless it can open it's mouth like this. And now I've gotten quite attached to the thin-armed/too skinny guy.

And if anyone gets the title quote, you are amazing.

Someone mentioned a while back that they were curious as to what a Gulper Eel (some species also known as the Pelican Eel) would look like as a merperson. Well...here you go whoever you are.

"What were you expecting? Ariel?"

My brain keeps going Wacom!Must-do-art. As such, my art rate is much higher than usual.

Piccies! )

Torpedo! )

At this rate I'm going to run out of line art to color.

Guess who got a new tablet today! Guess! Guess!

Four pictures already, yes I can't get away. )

Mermafied is pretty much the only 'club' I belong to. It's an online only (we're from all over) so I don't know how that effects the definition.

Anyway, Mermafied is an art club dedicated to the practical mermaid. Meaning real animals, or adaptions you'd expect to see in a water animal are used and they don't have human skin tones anywhere. Terms such as mer, merman, mermaphrodite, merfolk, and transplant mers (for those disney mertypes you see everywhere) are used to discribe the various kinds there are.

Exchanges are a fun way for people to draw each others characters, while getting something in return. Who draws who's character is completely random and I got Chael's (an awesome artist you can see on dA, who is also founder of the club) dumbo octopus mermaid named Dee to draw with a halloween theme. That's a big FAIL on the halloween part, but I desparately wanted to get my part done and with the end of the month when it's really due. With roughly the last two weeks of the month looking like chaos I really didn't want to miss the deadline just because I was somewhere without computer access. Chael wanted glowy and I couldn't think of anything else, too busy worrying about losing time to trying to come up with something better.

Resizing and jpegging hurts pictures something awful. )

I hope Dee is well liked, they haven't seen the picture yet.

Original Character Sheet

Name:
Veoz
Species: Merfolk- Janolus novozealandicus nudibranch
Gender/Sex: Hermaphrodite (the use of the male pronoun is merely a matter choice, but won't mind being called she either)

I can safely say there is no other character quite like this. )

That's all that I can think of at this point in time.

A reference page list to keep track of them all. Eventually I want to create a page for each of them, and as I do these I will link to the character profiles as I write them.

Merfolk )

Transformer OC's )

Will update accordingly.
