Magi Nation: Leaf Chogo

Flat colors and a gradient background because I spent all my time on making sure my commission info post was well done.

Alright, so I think I mentioned during my cat posts that I've been without reliable transportation for a while. Well I've got an update on that. Since this time last month my car’s been at the mechanic, refusing to start with any sort of predictability. Now I’ve got a great mechanic so this isn’t an issue with them, they’re actually cutting the cost some for me because this has been a such a mystery problem. It's been an issue that has plagued me the last few winters and just now has it been figured out.

Problem is, even with the discount, it’s still going to cost me $740. I wasn't planning on opening commissions for a while yet, but right now I need to. Please see below for the details of what I'm offering. Now, since I am strapped for cash, I am willing to be flexible with what is added to any one piece before adding to the price.

Commission info under here... )

My angler lady and her two hubbies. Because I plan on inclusiveness with sexuality/desiring who to spend your life with on top of the "less-than-ideal" body types and disabled people too. I'm going to include all the people who don't normally get included without being stereotyped.  And i'm going to use the fact that these "unnatural" states of being are natural by using the fact that such things do exist in the world naturally and with great success.

Revisiting an older character that I created about two years ago during this very same challenge, and gave her a hat. I've gotten a little better at drawing the endomorphic body type, though I'm still not to the point where I can do them confidently. In my mer world I want a whole slew of characters who have weight to them and to have it be considered normal and downright healthy. And even beautiful. Because being skinny is not healthy or beautiful for a lot of people out there, and representation matters.

I'm skinny, I'll always be skinny. I'll never know the bigotry that fat people experience every day. But I do see it. and I refuse to be a part of it. Will I screw up? More than likely, it's an insidious social disease that we're all born into. But I can at least try toreate characters who don't feed into that poison.

As for my Thuridilla lineolata mer? She's a singer and song writer of power ballads.

And some personal stuff under the cut... )

The Gigginox

More Monster Hunter monster art. I absolutely love the fact that there's cave dragons, and cave dragons that look like they should be living in caves too. Went with a more painterly technique today instead of the cel-shaded stuff I've been doing lately, it turned out well I think.

Another addition to my Burgess Shale merfolk. This time it's based off of the Leanchoilia, a.505 million year old arthropod. Took a couple liberties, but they're relatively minor. Mostly in how deep in body I made the mer, and reducing the number of segments in the forelimbs to make them more like a human arm.

One last thing, I love brown. It doesn't get near enough credit as a color.

Another game art day, this time for the online dragon site Flight Rising. Here's the deity Gladekeeper in all her bearded glory sitting in a teacup.

In other news, all the stress and required socializing of the stray showing up at our door triggered a migraine last night. Bleh.

January Challenge Day 8?: Iodrome and Great Wroggi

Here we go, back on schedule. Even though the two missed days hurt as I felt like this could be the year I actually complete this challenge of mine, I wouldn't take them back. I'll just have to do like I have done in year's previous and add on the missed days in February.

These are the two poison bird wyverns of Monster Hunter; a first gen and a third gen, and it's rather impressive with how different they are in design even when both share the Theropod body type. And I do like fighting them, even if their poison can be a pain.

There'll probably be more Monster Hunter art this month as I finally get to play Tri Ultimate and I've been blazing through the quests since I beat MH: Tri a while ago. I cannot tell you how much I love this game series. But now, bed, my head is killing me.

January Challenge Day 7
: Napping Nar Dream Creatures

Doing much better today, to the point that I got overambitious with today's pic and I actually started having to worry about the midnight deadline. And even still I forgot to add a obvious part to the Grendile, the one in the middle with the strange wood structure, it's supposed to have a glowy gem embedded in it's back inside the cage... thing.

Anyway, the sizes are my own interpretation as Magi Nation never was a big enough game to get clear guides on the sizes for all their stuff. I used their starting energy stats, the background of the cards to guess at size, and how well the composition of today's piece would fair with the different creatures.

January Challenge Day 6
: Rathian Ornament

Not much for talking today guys. When going through my photos I got hit again with a few old and heavy griefs that haven't healed yet. Doesn't help that I'm not all that happy with today's piece.

January Challenge Day 5
: Get Well Pic for Eerian

Another fanart from a fanfic image, though in this case it's a Transformers and Pokemon crossover. Wanted to add more to this but I couldn't really figure out what when I still had time to make major additions/changes. Hope you like it Eerian!

Gradient background because I'm lazy.

((And awesomeness, I'm not freaking out over my time constraints this year like I usually do. Also Awesomeness, I finally got the gift my brother got my for Christmas and it's Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate. :D :D :D))

January Challenge Day 4
: World Braille Day (featuring Xyni)

One of the elements I really want to have strong in my Merfolk world is an inclusive social structure, including blindness in all it's forms. From the visually impaired to Blind.

Xyni, is my most well developed blind character. I've got at least one full story arc planned focusing him and the social interactions and ties he has and not so much on the fact that he can't see much at all. I just want to include little but important things like his books (or scrolls, I haven't decided on the written medium yet) being written in braille as matter-of-factly as I can. Without making it a spectacle of entertainment.

Really wished I could have worked on this more, but my eyes started to experience some serious strain. I'm very much not used to staring at a screen for hours on end anymore.

Jan Challenge Day 3: Siphonophore Mer

"Even when dancing by themselves, a siphonophore is never alone."

Since September I've had a very rough sketch of what a merperson of this animal might look like. Unfortunately the book I was using as reference is at my grandmother's house, so instead of any specific species, this is just a generic physonect-type siphonophore. And yes, I see this kind of mer still as a colony and thus having a form of healthy multiple personality as well. Always referring to themselves in plural and being offended if treated as a singular entity. Because why not.

And don't forget dear followers, that requests are OPEN.

Jan Challenge Day 2: Andalite Psychopath

Wanted to do something organic (ie easier than robots) and bloody today. Not quite sure how I ended up choosing an Andalite, it's been over a decade since I've read any of the books even though I still have most of them hiding about somewhere. She's done mostly from memory with a slight refresher just to make sure I wasn't getting any aspect of their anatomy horribly wrong..

<It's amazing how indignant many are to be killed by something as primitive as a knife.>

God I loved this series as a kid.

And one more thing, I forgot to tell you all that I am open to requests! So hit me if there's been something that you've been wanting to see, I'm open to a lot of things.

Once upon a time I promised Ultharkitty that should she ever write Ma-Grrr fic I would draw a something from that story. Months later, I’ve finally done so. Though I spent waaaay too much time on this, that I did. And I had a really hard time find references for Blot. I want to say more, but my brain is tired even though I took a rare nap today.

But hello everyone! Seems like I only post stuff for this challenge of mine anymore but it's good to be back. Though no, I don't plan on the rest of my pics being this complex.

...

Ahah ahahaha. Eheh. Ha.                                    ...ohgod.

Like the animal he's based on, Xyni is almost totally blind.

*wanders off to go crash their head and not think about arts for a few blissful days*

Final official day. And of course the goddamn computer froze while trying to upload the damn image. Agraergh.

Anyway, goosebarnacle merpeople. Yes, they're into each other. Yes, they're rooted to the spot. And yes, they will be able to do it. Barnacles have  ah... *ahem* some of the longest equipment length  to body size ratio of any animal. And again, I prove myself as one of those people, who care not a whit about the "standard binary" that most people enforce, because they're hermaphrodites and have both male and female sets.

Now to make up a picture tomorrow and I'll have completed my new year's resolution. Gah.

IDEK, it's green? Lost my brain somewhere again today. I'm so glad the month is just about over. I'm so tired. Just tomorrow and a make up day. Sorry about falling behind on responding to comments, I'll get to them... eventually. I did read them all though, thanks to everyone who commented..

A couple more of my gastropod inspired merfolk, my other being the cone snail I drew earlier this month, though these ones are older in terms of when I created them. Played around with a simpler almost chibi style to try and cut down on their complexity, the exercise um... didn't quite work.

The one with the blue belly is Veoz, hie's a Janolus novozealandicus nudibranch merperson. I love drawing hiem but damn is hie complicated. As for the alternate pronoun, nudibranchs are hermaphrodites and Veoz has a slight leaning towards a masculine ID, I'll leave it at that.

Whereas Muscles is a green morph Chelynotus (or Chelyonotus, can't seem to find a solid official spelling) semperi, a species of velutinid. She's one of my merfolk that I've given the facial and body structure of a Black woman in my own pathetic attempt to keep from defaulting to whitewashing in my characters. Not happy how I lost some of those features in the way I drew her here.

Had more planned for this but I kinda ran outta time adding in all the glitchmice. So here's your cassettes eerian, hope you like 'em.
